We had a wonderful time putting together a mini-celebration for our sweet Maddy, our nanny who lives with us. She has always been like a member of our family but, as we have all isolated together, our bond has really grown even stronger! Maddy earned a degree in Pastoral Studies and her graduation would have been on Saturday. Since she would be stuck with us for her graduation, we decided to try to make it as special as we could for her.
We laid a white tablecloth because I think it makes every occasion seem more special! We also pulled out some of our finest china, Herend’s Chinese Bouquet and layered it with an antique bird and flower salad plate. We used some of my grandmother’s glassware which I only pull out for the best occasions! I also used the venetian glass candleholders that I bought on travels years ago. Fringe dinner napkins from Hibiscus Linens and placemats from La Gallina Matta added touches of rust to our pink and orange theme. I made a run to Trader Joes to find some of their amazing peonies for the table but there was a line wrapped around the building and I didn’t have time to stay. When I got home to park the car, I drove past our rose bush which was full of pretty pink roses that were perfect for the table!
Mixed with all of those family heirlooms and treasured tabletop items were some amazon finds! As a family, we were up and down on ladders zig-zagging streamers and signs across the dining room and making tissue paper flowers for our graduate! When it was time for her to walk in we played Pomp & Circumstance and tried to make it as celebratory as possible to honor her hard work and talk about her future!
